EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T baseball coach Ben Hall released the summer league assignments for his players on Tuesday. Fifteen Aggies will be spread out over five leagues this summer as they prepare for fall practice.
The Aggies are the two-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division champions after going 29-24 overall and 16-8 in the conference. The following are the summer league assignments for the Aggies:
The Madison Mallards
Leon Davidson – Davidson had a breakout season in 2019. He was a key reason the Aggies were able to put together back-to-back winning seasons. He was 5-0 with a 0.67 ERA. In his 33 appearances, he struck out 26 batters and walked only nine. He will be a senior in 2020.
Ryne Stanley – He was a first-team All-MEAC catcher, and he stands as one of the best defensive catchers in the league. He threw out 19 base runners trying to steal, and he doesn’t an excellent job of managing the Aggies pitching staff. He will be a senior in 2020.
The Traverse City Pit Spitters
Evan Gates – Gates had a terrific first year in Greensboro leading the Aggies in strikeouts with 65. Gates served as one of the Aggies weekend starting pitchers where he went 4-4 with a 4.05 ERA. He had nine strikeouts in a win over Florida A&M on April 6. He will be a senior in 2020.
CAL RIPKEN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
The DC Grays
Devin Bartley – Bartley was a reserve catcher for the Aggies. He played in eight games and did not make an error in 14 fielding opportunities. He will be a sophomore in 2020.
COASTAL PLAIN LEAGUE
The Morehead City Marlins
Tony Mack – Mack came on late in the season to have a steady freshman year at second base. He was a two-time MEAC rookie of the week winner. He batted .270 with 18 RBI while stealing seven bases. He was 13-for-24 at the plate (.542) with five RBI and five runs scored over the Aggies final eight games of the season.
Camden Williamson – Williamson returned from a horrific leg injury in 2019 to be one of the Aggies most improved players. He batted .258 with four home runs and 24 RBI in 44 games played. He was third on the team in RBI. He will be a senior in 2020.
The Gastonia Grizzlies
Timothy Davila – Davila did not play with the Aggies during the 2019 season. He is a junior college transfer out of Catawba Valley Community College. He will be a junior in 2020.
Gianni Smith – N.C. A&T is very excited about Smith’s future on the mound. During his freshman season, he made 13 appearances and went 2-2 while making four starts.
The Asheboro Copperheads
Dustin Baber – Baber was a third-team All-MEAC selection. Baber led the team in hitting with a .328 average. He also led the team in stolen bases with 13. In 219 fielding opportunities at shortstop, Baber only made 15 errors. He will be a senior in 2020.
Justin Fox – In 12 appearance for the Aggies in his first season, Fox had a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. He will be a senior in 2020.
SOUTHERN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
The Concord A’s
Connor Knapp – Knapp did not play as a freshman for the Aggies in 2019. Knapp played high school baseball at West Johnston High School. Knapp will be a redshirt freshman in 2020.
Scott Meitzler – Meitzler has the potential to be a great hitter at N.C. A&T. He was scheduled to redshirt his freshman season but did play eight games where he was 6-for-13 (.462) at the plate with three doubles, four RBI and four runs scored.
FLORIDA COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Jeremiah Foster – Foster was a transfer out of Elon University in 2019. In his first season with N.C. A&T, he made 10 appearances and posted a 4.80 ERA.
Dante Wade – Wade is an outstanding defensive player who can cover a lot field in a hurry from his center field position. Once he is on base, he becomes a nuisance. He was 7-for-9 in stolen bases in 2019. He will be a sophomore in 2020.
Peyton Winebarger – Winebarger is another young pitcher the Aggies are enthused to have in the program. In 17 appearances as a freshman, the left-hander went 1-1 with 12 strikeouts and 10 walks in 14 innings pitched.
