GREENSBORO (January 11, 2018) – North Carolina A&T junior forward Femi Olujobi was added to the Mid-Season Watch List for the Lou Henson Award on Thursday.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I mid-major men’s basketball player. Olujobi is the only Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference player on the list currently. Going into Saturday’s game against Morgan State, Olujobi is averaging 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor, 40.5 percent (15-for-37) from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line.
Olujobi made an immediate impact on the Aggies men’s basketball program after transferring from Oakland University. In his first six games as an Aggie, he scored 20 or more points. After his first five contests, he was averaging 29.4 points per game and leading the nation in scoring. Olujobi has scored in double figures in all 16 of N.C. A&T’s games including a season-high 37 points in a win at Jacksonville on Nov. 18. He also had 18 rebounds in the contest.
In the MEAC, he ranks in the top-5 in points per game (2nd), total points (338), free throws made (2nd, 91) and attempted (2nd, 111), field goal percentage (2nd), rebounds per game (3rd), double-doubles (3rd, 6), total field goals made (3rd, 116), free throw percentage (5th), total rebounds (5th, 133) and minutes per game (5th, 34:07).
Lou Henson coached 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
The 2017-18 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award will be announced on March 31, 2018 at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Event in San Antonio, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
Olujobi is looking to help the Aggies in two tough conference games coming up at Corbett Sports Center. N.C. A&T will face Morgan State (7-9, 3-0 MEAC) 4 p.m., Saturday at Corbett before facing Coppin State (1-17, 1-2 MEAC) 7:30 p.m., Monday, January 15 at home. The Aggies are 8-8 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC.
