AGGIES OVERVIEW:  North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central renew their entertaining and heated rivalry on Saturday when the Eagles come to a sold-out Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies have won three out of the last four against the Eagles including last season’s 68-63 win over the Eagles, the Aggies only Division I win in 2016-17. The Aggies are a much different team than the one that went 3-29 last season. Even though the Aggies are coming off their first conference loss of the season, a 90-88 overtime loss to Howard, the Aggies are tied for second in the MEAC with N.C. Central and Savannah State. N.C. A&T will be going after their ninth straight win at Corbett Sports Center and they will look to improve to 8-0 at home this season. Senior Davaris McGowens has led the Aggies during conference play. He is the Aggies leading scorer and rebounder in MEAC play, averaging 14.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He had 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds at Howard on Monday.

NCCU OVERVIEW:  North Carolina Central is coming off a win at Maryland Eastern Shore. The Eagles, however, also lost to Howard in overtime during a recent road trip. The Eagles have won three out of the last four MEAC regular-season titles and are the defending MEAC tournament and regular-season champions. The Eagles are led by nine-year head coach LaVelle Moton who has two MEAC championships under his belt as the Eagles head coach. The Eagles started the season 0-3 but they have seven out of their last eight games. NCCU has a dangerous trio of scorers in Reasean Davis (15.3 ppg), Reginald Gardner Jr. (11.8 ppg) and Pablos Rivas (11.1 ppg). Jordan Perkins runs the show for the Eagles. Perkins is averaging 7.8 points and 4.8 assists per game including nine assists in the Eagles win over MDES on Monday. NCCU leads the conference in field goal percentage (.482) and field goal percentage defense (.417).

Stepping Up: Junior Femi Olujobi went two games without scoring in double figures. But in his last two games, Olujobi is averaging 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while shooting 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from the field.

News & Notes:

  • If the Aggies win, they will win two straight over NCCU at Corbett for the first time since the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons. The two teams played on neutral floors from 1990-2010.
  • The interesting fact about that Aggies win over NCCU at Corbett last season was that it marked the first time since the1985-86 season that N.C. A&T defeated NCCU at Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies had lost seven straight to the Eagles at Corbett over that time.
  • In conference play, the Aggies have found different sources of production. Four Aggies are averaging in double figures in MEAC play with McGowens, Olujobi (10.7), Denzel Keyes (10.7) and Aaren Edmead (10.2).
  • Freshman point guard Kameron Langley has been impressive in his first season with the Aggies. Langley leads the MEAC in assist-to-turnover ratio. Langley has 100 assists against only 40 turnovers. In his last five games, he has 33 assists and only 11 turnovers.
