ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 25, 2018) – North Carolina A&T women’s basketball completed play in the Navy Thanksgiving Classic against host Navy with the Midshipmen coming away with a 72-49 win at Alumni Hall.
Junior Cinia McCray finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. McCray had 10 points the previous night against Maine and earned all-tournament honors. Junior Alexus Lessears also scored in double figures with 11 points. Junior C’coriea Foy tied a career high with nine rebounds.
McCray ended the first quarter with a jump shot to get the Aggies to within five at the end of the quarter at 17-12. After the Aggies trailed by as many as 16 in the second quarter, it was McCray’s 3-pointer that go the Aggies to back to within single-digits at 33-24 with 1:07 remaining in the first half. Lessears hit two free throws to keep Navy’s lead at nine at halftime, 35-26.
But the third quarter was not a prosperous one for N.C. A&T (1-5). The Aggies were outscored 25-8 in the quarter and turned the ball over 12 times within the 10-minute period. Navy countered that by shooting 9-for-15 in the third quarter as guard Jennifer Coleman posted 14 points in the quarter on 5-for-7 shooting. The Aggies came out of the third quarter trailing 60-34 and were never able to recover.
N.C. A&T will go after their first Division I win on Thursday when they travel to Cullowhee, N.C., to face Western Carolina at 7 p.m. The Aggies will take a break from game action to take exams but will return to competition noon Monday, December 10 as they welcome Johnson C. Smith to Corbett Sports Center.
