Lessears Earns Weekly Honor
GREENSBORO (December 8, 2017) – North Carolina A&T sophomore center Alexus Lessears (6-foot-3, C, SO, Cleveland, Ohio) was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week in women’s basketball.
Lessears grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked five shots at UT Martin last week, both career highs, to go along with a steal. Eight of those rebounds came on the defensive end, and she also had a career-high 20 points in that contest.
“We are excited about Alexus’ progress over the last few games where she has averaged a double-double,” said N.C. A&T head women’s basketball coach Tarrell Robinson. “We know that she is capable of putting up those type of numbers on a nightly basis if she continues to work. This recognition comes during a time where she deserves to see her hard work payoff.”
Over the last three games, Lessears is averaging 13.7 points with 14.7 rebounds and shooting 56 percent from the field. She has posted double-digit rebounds in each game totaling 44 with 25 coming on the offensive end to go along with six blocked shots anchoring the defense.
Lessears ranks 40th in the nation in total rebounds (71) and 78th in rebounds per game (10.1) while leading the MEAC in both statistical categories. She is second in the conference and sixth nationally in offensive rebounds per game (5.0).
