GREENSBORO (February 27, 2018) – Alexus Lessears (6-foot-3, sophomore, center, Cleveland, Ohio) as recognized for the second time this season as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference co-defensive player of the week for women’s basketball, as announced by the conference.

Lessears averaged 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game this past week for the Aggies in a pair of road wins. Lessears recorded 10 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in Monday’s win over Bethune-Cookman, who was previously unbeaten in the conference before the Aggies 62-55 triumph. In the game, Lessears recorded her sixth double-double of the season. On Saturday against Florida A&M, Lessears blocked three shots, had one steal and grabbed seven rebounds.

With one game remaining in the regular season, Lessears ranks second in the MEAC in field goal percentage (.503), third in rebounds per game (9.0), fourth in both offensive rebounds (3.7) and defensive rebounds (5.3) and ninth in blocked shots per game (1.31).

N.C. A&T is 19-8 overall and 14-1 in the MEAC as they moved into a first-place tie in the conference standings with the Wildcats. By beating the Wildcats head-to-head, the Aggies will earn the No. 1 seed at the 2018 MEAC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament (March 5-10) with a win at archrival N.C. Central on Thursday (5:30 p.m. tip). They will also win at least a share of the conference’s regular-season title.
