GREENSBORO (February 20, 2018) – Freshman Ana Olaya (Bogota, Colombia) was rewarded for the best performance of her young career by earning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference co-bowler of the week on Monday.
“Ana is improving at such a rapid pace,” said N.C. A&T coach Kim Terrell-Kearney. “She is getting better at every facet of the sport. We are so happy it is starting to pay off”
Olaya bowled a season-high 236 in traditional play during the fourth annual Stephen F. Austin Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic in Houston. After bowling a 236 on Saturday to help the Aggies beat tournament-host Stephen F. Austin. Her previous season high was 234. She topped that number again in a 1,083-974 win over defending MEAC champion Maryland Eastern Shore with a 235.
As an individual, Olaya finished 15th over the weekend with a total pinfall of 1,037 and a 207.4 average.
Olaya leads the team in total pinfall (6,265) and (195.78) just ahead of freshman Cameron Strombeck (194.83). Olaya also leads the team in highest average score per frame in Bakers format at 19.35 and is second in traditional play at 19.30. She leads the team in strike percentage at 45.1 percent in Bakers format and she is second in traditional play at 39.5 percent.
“It is an honor to be awarded the MEAC co-bowler of the week award,” said Olaya. “I love team bowling and I am so excited about all we can still do this season.”
Olaya and the Aggies will return to action this weekend in their only home tournament of the season as they will host the third MEAC Southern Division tournament at AMF All-Star Lanes on Holden Road in Greensboro.
