HOUSTON (February 16, 2018) – The 17th-ranked North Carolina A&T bowling team completed Day 1 of the fourth annual Stephen F. Austin Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic at Copperfield Bowl on Friday with a 2-3 record in Bakers format. The Aggies had the ninth-highest total pinfall at 4,770 for an average of 190.8.

“We are really looking forward to the next two days,” said coach Kim Terrell-Kearney. “ We got out ahead in all our matches today. We just have to get better at closing our opponents out.”

The Aggies started off the day strong as they toppled Maryville 993-900 to get the tournament rolling before defeating St. Francis-Brooklyn 1,000-898. The Aggies 1,000 total pinfall against St. Francis-Brooklyn marked the ninth time this season the Aggies have gone over 1,000 in a game.

N.C. A&T then endured three disappointing losses with each game within their grasp. The Aggies lost the three matches by a combied total of 77 pins. Despite the dissapointing losses, the Aggies never saw a fall off in play. They went over 900 total pins in every matchup but one.

The Aggies 993-943 loss to Duquesne was the largest margin of defeat on Friday. They lost Adelphia 972-956 and in their only match below 900 total pinfall, the Aggies lost to LIU-Brooklyn 889-878.

Eighteen of the 16 teams competing in Houston this weekend are nationally ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association top-25 poll including the Aggies at No. 17.

Play on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 9:25 a.m., as each team will play five traditional team matches. Bracket play to determine the final standings will take place on Sunday with three best 4 of 7 Barkers matches. Total pinall from N.C. A&T’s first 10 matches will determine their seeding for bracket play scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m., Sunday. N.C. A&T won the SFA Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic in 2016.
