EAST GREENSBORO (November 14, 2018) – Sophomore Ana Olaya (Bogota, Colombia) was rewarded for her performance this past weekend at the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament in Wilmington, Del. Olaya was named bowler of the week by the conference this week.
“This weekend we caught a glimpse into the kind of player Ana can be,” said coach Kim Terrell-Kearney. “Each tournament she is more and more comfortable with the pressure of being anchor. She made a very difficult condition look easy.”
Olaya led the Aggies to an 8-2 record against. Tuesday’s honor marks the third consecutive tournament that an N.C. A&T bowler has received a weekly accolade from the conference. It is Olaya's third career weekly honor.
Olaya bowled three 200-plus games during traditional play including a season-high 242 against Monmouth during Game 4 on Saturday. She bowled a 204 and a 233 to open up the day on Saturday for her other two 200-plus games. Those games led to a career-high five-game series of 1,053 for Olaya over her first five games. Olaya took the top spot in the individual standings with a 1,214 total pinfall for an average of 202.23.
"I feel very happy to be named bowler of the week, but I'm happier to see where our team is going," said Olaya. "We worked really hard this last weekend and we will keep on working hard."
Olaya and the Aggies will return to action this Friday, Nov. 16-18, to compete in the UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del.
