EAST GREENSBORO (October 3, 2018) – North Carolina A&T freshman Regan Kimtai earned men’s cross country runner of the week and junior G’Jasmyne Butler won women’s co-runner of the week from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Wednesday.

The men’s and women’s team claimed first place at the 35thAnnual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational at Hagan Stone Park last Saturday thanks in part to Kimtai’s and Butler’s respective first-place finishes.

Kimtai took the individual gold by completing the 8k course in 25:56.67. Kimtai is off to a great collegiate start. He has posted the fastest time in each of the Aggies first two events. Kimtai placed 3rd overall at the Elon Invitational in his collegiate debut with a time of 18:19 in the 5k event.

“Kimtai is a great guy and athlete,” said Duane Ross, director of track and field programs. “This is well deserved and with his attitude and work ethic we expect to see many more of these awards in his future.”

Butler took the individual gold on the women’s side completing the 5k course in 19:10.08 to set not only a new personal best but also a school record. Her summer training regiment is paying dividends. She has been the top finisher for the Aggies in each of the first two competitions this season. Butler completed the 4k in 15:19 in the season opener at the Elon Invitational. The Greensboro Cross Country Invitational was her first career win to go along with three second-place finishes.

"She's coming into her own and becoming an outstanding athlete," said Ross. "Her confidence grows week by week and I want to see her take that next step of being mentioned in the NCAA conversation."

Kimtai will have a chance to help N.C. A&T men’s team win the HBCU Challenge for the fifth straight season in Cary, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 6. The men’s team will start at 9:30 a.m. with an 8k run.
