EAST GREENSBORO (October 5, 2018) – North Carolina A&T cross country will be hitting the trails for the second weekend in a row as the men’s and women’s teams head to the Wake Med Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C., to compete in the Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge.

The Aggie men will be running their 8k race starting at 9:30 a.m., Saturday.  The women start 35 minutes later. N.C. A&T’s The men will be looking to capture their fifth straight HBCU Challenge. Last season the Aggies finished with 48 points edging out Morehouse by four points.

The Aggies looked strong last week in their first 8k race of the season winning the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational with four runners finishing in the top-6. Freshman Regan Kimtai earned runner of the week from the MEAC after his first-place finish in 25:56.67 at the 35th Annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational last week.

Junior G’Jasmyne Butler earned co-runner of the week from the MEAC after her first-place finish in 19:10.08 in the women’s 5k at the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational.

The women’s team finished second last year for the second straight season at the HBCU Challenge. They finished second behind Hampton, but Hampton is not scheduled to compete this season. Butler has been setting the pace for the women’s team this year. She finished third for the Aggies in last year’s event behind fellow juniors Camille Martin and Kristoni Barnes.

Cross Country was scheduled to run at the Wake Med Soccer Complex earlier this season, but Hurricane Florence forced a cancelation of the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by N.C. State. The Wake Med Soccer Complex is a tough trail, therefore, both teams have prepared for the event by adding hill drills to their workouts.
