GREENSBORO (October 4, 2017) – North Carolina A&T junior cross country runner Hakeem Mustafaa (Columbia, Ga.) earned men’s co-runner of the week from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Wednesday after the Aggies claimed the 34th annual Greensboro Cross Country Invitational at Hagan Stone Park last Saturday thanks in part to his first-place finish.
Mustafaa took individual gold, completing the 8K course in 26:19.39. His time gives him the No. 7 ranking in the MEAC. Mustafaa is off to a great start this season. He ran a 19:28.9 at the adidas Cross Country Challenge three weeks ago at the Wake Med Soccer Park. He placed 30th at Elon to open the season with a time of 20:04.
“I’m very proud of Hakeem. He is one of the hardest working athletes we have,” said Duane Ross, director of track and field programs. “There is so much more he’s going to accomplish before this season is over.”
Mustafaa will have that chance to accomplish more on Saturday in Cary, N.C., at the Wake Med Soccer Park for the annual Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge. The men’s teams will start at 9:30 a.m. with an 8k run. Mustafaa finished seventh in 26:22.5 last season as the Aggies won the meet.
