– The North Carolina A&T volleyball team showed the rust a nine-day layoff produces, but the Aggies were still able to defeat  Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams 3-1 (30-22, 28-30, 30-13, 30-16) on Tuesday evening at the CE Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., in non-conference volleyball action.

Despite trailing midway through the first game of the match, the Aggies rebounded and earned a comfortable 30-22 win to open up a one-game lead. WSSU showed poise as they earned a hard-fought 30-28 win in the second game of the match to even the contest at one game each.

Not indicative of the Lady Rams' effort, the Aggies mounted an offensive charge and secured the match victory with back-to-back wins in games three and four to ultimately earn the win.

Leading the way for the victorious Aggies was Arlene Mitchell who recorded a match-high 22 kills in the win.  She also had nine digs, which brings her career total to 915. She needs just 85 digs to become the first Aggies player with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. Three other Aggies had double-figure kills, including Aundia Gray (11), Brenden Chatman (11) and Tiffany Mellete (10).  The Lady Rams were led by Ciera Simpson who tallied eight kills in the losing effort.

The loss drops WSSU to 2-26 on the season while NC A&T improves to 13-9 overall with the victory. The Aggies will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to face the Wildcats on Friday. They return home on Tuesday, Oct. 31 to face cross-town rival UNCG.
