VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., October 30, 2006 -- North Carolina A&T
senior Arlene Mitchell was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced.
Mitchell (Henderson, N.C., 5-9, OH) had 42 kills and 20 digs and five aces to lead the Lady Aggies to a 2-0 mark last week. Mitchell led her team to its sixth conference win of the year with 20 kills and 11 digs, while hitting .600 from the field in a 3-0 victory against Bethune-Cookman. Her double-double was the 34th for her career and her 20-kill performance was her ninth of the season. This is the third time this season that Mitchell has earned Player of the Week accolades. Mitchell is coming closer to a unprecedented mark in the history of Aggies volleyball by becoming the first player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. She is 64 digs shy of reaching 1,000 digs for a career. This week's honor was her sixth player of the week honor. She ranks 10th in the nation in service aces with 0.64 per game.
