--  Arlene Mitchell became the first Aggies volleyball player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career on Friday night in a 3-0 (3023, 30-21, 31-29) loss to Gardner-Webb on the road.

Mitchell came into the match needing one dig to earn the milestone. She did much better than that as she recorded 11 digs and added 14 kills for good measure. Heading into the MEAC Tournament on Friday, the senior has 1,645 kills and 1,010 digs in her marvelous career.

Sister Darlene Mitchell added 10 kills and six digs. The Aggies other senior Lauren Walker had 23 digs. The Aggies will be the third seed in the MEAC Tournament in Hampton. They open the tournament against Bethune-Cookman, a team they beat 3-0 in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Oct. 27.

The Aggies are in the same bracket with second-seeded Morgan State and seventh-seeded Coppin State. Morgan State, who finished 9-1 in the conference, defeated the Aggies 3-0. North Carolina A&T defeated Coppin State 3-0. The top seed is Florida A&M. The Aggies advanced to the MEAC championship match last season after beating Bethune-Cookman in the semifinals.
