Box Score The Aggies (2-19) were playing their first match in nine days after their conference tilt with six-time defending MEAC champion Florida A&M was postponed on Saturday. Despite the layoff, the Aggies still looked sharp early. In the first game on Tuesday, the Aggies were able to take a 19-16 lead. The Phoenix (12-10) fought back to take the lead 20-19 on a ball-handling error by the Aggies. The Phoenix would go on to score six of the next eight points in the game to take a 26-21 lead. A service error by Elon’s Natalie Moore would start an Aggies rally, however. Senior setter Brenden Chatman followed the service error with a kill. An Elon attack error moved the Aggies to within two at 26-24. The Phoenix scored the next two points to take a four-point lead. But another Elon service error started another run for the Aggies as they moved to within one, 28-27, on an attack error by Elon’s Lauren Copenhagen. A Copenhagen kill was followed by a Emily Lucci kill to end the game. The Phoenix took the second game, before the Aggies stayed alive with a win in Game 3. The Aggies took their biggest lead of Game 3 on a Nyra Taborn and Gray block assists. After two Phoenix points, Gray put the Aggies on the verge of victory with a kill. But the Phoenix rallied with a 3-0 run capped off by a Cooper attack error that cut the Aggies lead to 29-27. But Jessica Barrow’s next serve for Elon fell short to give the Aggies the win in Game 3. The Phoenix took Game 4 after taking a commanding 18-8 lead. The Aggies return to action on Thursday night when they face Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla., at 7. |
