Box Score Norfolk State ran into the same problem Friday night. Chatman consistently frustrated the Spartans, helping the Aggies to a 3-1 (31-33, 30-19, 30-17, 30-20) MEAC win at Corbett Sports Center. Chatman finished the night with 13 kills, 12 digs and 43 assists. She had only one attack error on the night and she is now just eight assists shy of becoming North Carolina A&T’s all-time assists leader. She is strong in all aspects of the game – setting, attacking, defense – and she has a great serve,’’ N.C. A&T head volleyball coach Lyndsay Schmiedel. “With her being left-handed, she catches people off guard. People don’t expect a setter to be as aggressive as she is.” Chatman received help from some of her teammates on Friday. Krystal Cooper had 16 kills and nine digs, Aundia Gray chipped in with 17 kills and Avignon Williams finished with 10 kills and five blocks. But Chatman and the Aggies got off to a slow start on Friday. The Spartans took a 21-10 lead in the first game. Although the Aggies eventually lost the game, they would dominate the match from that point on. A 9-3 run put the Aggies down 28-25. Chatman notched her first kill of the game with a sudden leap off the floor and quick swipe with her left hand that landed just inside the line. After a Solange Honore’s ball handling error, Chatman tied the game at 28 with another kill. The teams went back-and-forth with Chatman tying the game at 31. But a Yolanda Roberts kill and a Janae Mitchell attack error gave the Spartans the game. The Aggies opened a 19-10 lead in Game 2 and won the game with ease thanks to a -.032 hitting percentage by the Spartans. The same held true for Game 3. Gray ignited a 9-2 run in the third game that gave the Aggies comfortable 19-10 lead in Game 3. Cooper, who didn’t play in Game 1, had a combined 13 kills between Game 2 and 3. Chatman will go for the school record on Monday, October 29 at home when the Aggies face High Point at 6 p.m.
