WINSTON-SALEM, October 16, 2007
– The North Carolina A&T volleyball team got its swagger back and looked like the well oiled machine most people expected to see coming into the season.

After two disappointing losses in Florida, the Aggies returned to action Tuesday and defeated Winston-Salem State 3-0 (30-18, 25, 17) at the C.E. Gaines Center. Junior Aundia Gray led the way with 13 kills on a .524 hitting percentage for the match.

Senior setter Brenden Chatman contributed with six kills, 33 assists and seven digs. She is now 60 assists away from becoming the school’s all-time leader in assists. Sophomore libero Stacey Malone added 15 digs.

“We really need this one after the way we played in Florida,’’ said N.C. A&T head volleyball coach Lyndsay Schmiedel. “I thought this one of the best matches we’ve played all season. It was good to see the ladies come out and perform the way they did.”

In the first game, Winston-Salem State moved to within one, 15-14, on a Kaycee Anderson attack error. The Aggies would take control from there. Two kills apiece from Anderson and Gray gave the Aggies a 19-15 lead.

A service error by the Aggies moved the Rams to within three. The Aggies would go on an impressive 9-0 run. Krystal Cooper keyed the run with three kills during the rally. She capped off the run with a kill with an assists from Chatman to give the Aggies a commanding 28-16 lead.

The Rams made the Aggies sweat a little more the second game. Rams middle hitter Brandie Bean moved the Rams to within two with a kill that made the score 22-20. But a block assists from Nyra Taborn and Avignon Williams, an attack error from Bean and another kill from Gray gave the Aggies some comfort at 25-20.

The Aggies return to conference play on Friday when they face Norfolk State at Corbett Sports Center at 6 p.m. It will be the Aggies first home match in over a month.
