Aggies win second straight
Box Score Avignon Williams recorded 14 kills and three blocks to lead the North Carolina A&T volleyball team to its second straight win with a 3-0 (30-21, 14, 19) victory over Savannah State in the N.C. Central Volleyball Tournament played at Hillside High School in Durham on Friday. The Aggies improved to 2-16 on the season after coming off of their first win of the season on Tuesday. Senior setter Brenden Chatman chipped in with five kills, five digs and 36 assists. The Aggies benefited from the Tigers woeful .013 hitting percentage. “Our confidence is really starting to increase,’’ said Schmiedel. “The goal is to continue to get better each and every match and I think we’re doing that.” The Aggies entertained the idea of a competitive match early on as they led just 18-16 in the first game. It was at that point the Aggies begin to execute. The Aggies produced three service aces and four kills to help them close out the game. Two of those kills came from Williams. The Aggies didn’t have any trouble from the Tigers in the other two games. They took a 14-point lead in the second game and led by as many as 11 in the third game. The Aggies continue play in the tournament on Saturday when they face Providence at 10 a.m., before facing tournament host N.C. Central at 7 p.m. |
