Senior Day Bios She made the trip worth it. The Kaysville, Utah senior recorded a career-high 21 kills and 20 digs to lead the North Carolina A&T volleyball team to a 3-1 win (24-30, 30-22, 30-28, 30-25) over Bethune-Cookman in conference play at Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies (7-24, 5-2) solidified the second-place slot in the MEAC South Division heading into the MEAC Tournament, which starts November 17 in Hampton, Va. The Aggies face conference power Florida A&M Sunday at noon in Corbett Sports Center, in what will be a make-up game. “Kaycee was on today,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Lyndsay Schmiedel. “I know our seniors really wanted to come out here and do well in front of their families. It was a good win for us. We need all the momentum we can get going into the tournament.” The Aggies also paid tribute to setter Brenden Chatman (Davenport, Iowa), outside hitter Krystal Cooper (Missouri City, Texas) and middle hitter Nyra Taborn (Harrisburg, Ill.). Chatman, who has been so valuable for the Aggies in so many ways during her career, showcased that value on Saturday. She had a season-high 50 assists to go along with nine kills, five service aces and 15 digs. Meanwhile, Cooper finished with 12 kills and 18 digs for her 11th career double-double. Taborn finished with three kills. Senior Day didn’t start well for the Aggies. The Wildcats posted an impressive .417 hitting percentage in beating the Aggies 30-24. Late in the second game, Anderson started making sure she and her fellow seniors would look good in front of mom and dad. With the Aggies leading 23-21 in Game 2, Anderson began her march toward her career performance by slamming down four consecutive kills to give the Aggies a 27-21 lead. Junior Avignon Williams finished off the Wildcats with one of her eight kills on the day. The Aggies held a 28-22 lead in the third game before three straight Wildcat kills moved them to within three. Cooper ended the rally with a kill, but a Marlene Holmes kill and an attack error from Anderson cut the Aggies lead to 29-27. Another Holmes kill moved the Wildcats to within one, but she followed the kill with an error that gave the Aggies a 2 games to 1 lead. With Anderson serving in the fourth game, and with the Aggies leading 22-15, N.C. A&T put together a 4-0 run. It included a Kaycee Anderson service ace that put the Wildcats away for good as the Aggies took a 26-15 lead. |
