WILLIAMS EARNS SECOND-TEAM HONORS

HAMPTON, Va., November 15, 2007 Avignon Williams has worked hard every off-season to become a defensive force for the North Carolina A&T volleyball team.

Her hard work paid off. Williams was named second-team All-MEAC prior to the MEAC Volleyball Tournament. It was the junior’s first all-conference honor. The New Orleans native was second in the conference in blocks with 1.06 per game. She also recorded a career-high 241 kills on the season and had a career-high 2.15 kills per game.

“I have loved Avi’s work ethic since she has been here,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Lyndsay Schmiedel said. “When she came here we knew she had a lot of potential, it was just a matter of her realizing that potential. It’s good to see a young lady work to improve herself.”

Williams had nine matches in which she had five or more total blocks. She had 10 matches in which she recorded double figure kills. Against conference opponents she averaged 1.48 blocks and 2.0 kills per game. Williams has 313 career blocks with 251 assisted.
