AGGIES LOSE IN THREE TO UNCG

GREENSBORO, SEPTEMBER 3, 2008 –
Physically, North Carolina A&T volleyball coach Lyndsay Schmiedel knows her team can compete with anyone. It is mental aspect of the game that concerns her.

Janae Mithcell led the Aggies with five kills and Amber Inman added seven digs, but the Aggies produced just a -.003 hitting percentage as they lost to UNC Greensboro 3-0 (25-16, 18, 9) at Fleming Gymnasium Wednesday night.

“We have the talent to compete,’’ said Schmiedel. “We have to get where we need to be mentally. When we stop breaking down mentally, I think we can be a very good volleyball team. It is something we are going to work on in practice.”

The Aggies stayed competitive in games one and two before the Spartans put together lengthy runs to put the Aggies away. Avignon Williams slammed down a kill thanks to a set by Jordan Gray to give the Aggies an 11-10 lead in the first game. The Aggies helped the Spartans by making three errors during a 4-0 run as they fell behind 14-11.

An attack error by Catherine Hanners moved the Aggies to within two, but a service error and an attack error by the Aggies ignited 6-1 run by the Spartans that put the Aggies away in the first game.

In the second game, the Aggies took a 14-12 lead. But three straight service errors by the Aggies kept them from pulling away. Freshman Breanne Dotstry gave the Aggies a 17-16 lead on a kill before the Spartans went on a 7-0 run to win Game 2.

The Aggies will be back in action this weekend when they participate in the Elon Tournament Friday and Saturday.
