AGGIES LOSE HOME OPENER

Box Score
GREENSBORO – Outside of an obvious set back in the second set, the North Carolina A&T volleyball team made undefeated Marshall sweat out a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-10, 25-23) in the Aggies home opener at Corbett Sports Center Tuesday night.

Sophomore Bree Dotstry led the Aggies with five kills and three blocks. Senior Tiffany Mellette registered four kills and no attack errors, while senior Stacey Malone chipped in with a season-high 18 digs.

The Aggies had an opportunity to force a fourth set on Tuesday. After a 10-minute intermission to recover from a second set that saw the Thundering Herd put down 14 kills with only one attack error for a .371 hitting percentage.

N.C. A&T apparently took it personally as it jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third set. A thunderous Janae Mitchell kill gave the Aggies a 19-12 lead as Marshall’s Abby Tomas had to turn her body to avoid the contact of the ball that came scorching off of Mitchell’s hand. But thanks to some Aggie miscues, the Herd rallied. Three straight Katy Schad kills gave the Herd a 22-21 lead.

Mellette tied the set with a kill just inside the line. After the two teams exchanged errors to knot the score at 23 apiece, kills by Schad and Elizabeth Herman gave the Herd (8-0) the victory. Kristin Marcum led the Herd with nine kills and 15 digs.

The Aggies are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to face Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. The Aggies return home Wednesday, Sept., 30 to face UNC Greensboro at 6 p.m.
