N.C. A&T VOLLEYBALL FALLS TWICE IN AGGIE CLASSIC

Team record drops to 2-2 on the season after finishing 1-2 in Invitational

GREENSBORO, NC – September 4, 2004 – N.C. A&T (2-2) dropped two contests in day two of the Aggie Classic, losing to Navy 3-1 (30-19, 30-17, 25-30, 30-18) and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 3-0 (30-28, 30-17, 30-11) at the Greensboro Sportsplex.

Ashley Van Hartesvelt posted a double-double for Navy with 25 kills and 11 digs. Ashley Muller dished 40 set assists to lead the Midshipmen, who went undefeated at the Tournament with a 4-0 record. Navy held the Lady Aggies to a .009 hitting percentage, while landing 53 kills on a .197 percentage. Van Hartesvelt and Muller were selected to the All Tournament Team for their efforts.

Arlene Mitchell led N.C. A&T with 14 kills, while Brendan Chatman had 20 set assists. Both players were selected to the All-Tournament Team after notching season highs during the three games.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi survived a Lady Aggie rally to earn the first game, then cruised to the victory. Lauren Carter led the Islanders with an all around effort of 16 set assists, seven digs, six kills and six of the teams’ 12 service aces. Kati Broom and Lauren Smith had nine kills apiece to pace the Islanders offense, which hit at a .272 percentage for the match.

Darlene Mitchell led the Lady Aggies with seven kills, while Chatman recorded 14 set assists.  

Completing the All Tournament Team were Tabitha Turner (Campbell), Sarah Dillon (Campbell), Patricia Ortiz (Savannah State) and Satin Kinsey (Savannah State).

N.C. A&T pummeled Savannah State in their first match on Friday, 3-0 (30-18, 30-12, 30-5).
