LADY AGGIES DOMINATE AT MEAC ROUND UP

N.C. A&T Finishes 5-1 at Round Robin

Princess Anne, Md. - October 26, 2004 - N.C. A&T finished up play in the 2004 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up with a 30-28, 30-23, 30-27 victory over Howard University.

N.C. A&T (9-12, 7-1) improved to 5-1 on the weekend as Krystal Cooper (17 kills and 10 digs) and Arlene Mitchell (14 kills and 13 digs) each recorded double-doubles. Brendan Chatman recorded 35 assists while Leinitia Williams had 10 kills and Lauren Walker had 10 digs.

Howard (6-20, 4-6) was paced by Kollin Hoskins team-high 13 kills and Kimberly Dexter's double-double (10 kills and 14 digs). Shannon Grant chipped in 37 assists in the loss.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Aggies knocked off Delaware State with a 31-29, 30-25, 30-21 win over Delaware State (DSU). 

DSU fell to 3-2 to close out the weekend as the north division plays only five matches, while the south division competes six times over the weekend.

Leading the way for N.C. A&T (8-12, 6-1) was Arlene Mitchell who had a match-high 18 kills to go along with seven digs. Krystal Cooper also recorded double-digit kills with 12 kills and 10 digs.

For Delaware State (7-18, 5-3), Laura Huculak recorded 15 kills and six digs, while Michael-Anne Gunsten had 11 kills. Dawn Alford totaled 34 assists and Desiree Abeyta had a match-high 16 digs.

DAY TWO

Lady Aggies defeat Hampton University in Lone Match of the Day

N.C. A&T defeated Hampton 3-0 on Day Two of the MEAC Volleyball Roundup. The Lady Aggies (7-12, 5-20) beat the Pirates by scores of 30-18, 30-28, 30-19.

Krystal Cooper had a double-double, leading N.C. A&T with 11 kills and 10 digs.  Arlene Mitchell had a near double-double, netting nine kills and 12 digs. Leinitia Williams and Darlene Mitchell each added eight kills.

Leading the way for Hampton (5-20, 2-6) was Sydnee Kell, who had a double-double, 10 assists and 10 digs. Chavanca Hoskins added seven kills and 10 digs for the Pirates.

DAY ONE

Lady Aggies finish 2-1 on the day, rally from 2-0 deficit to down Morgan State

N.C. A&T rallied from down two games to zero to win in five games over Morgan State. Morgan State won the first two games 30-27 and 30-26, before N.C. A&T rallied to win the final three games 30-27, 30-28, and 16-14.

N.C. A&T was led by Arlene Mitchell's match-high 26 kills and team-high 16 digs. Krystal Cooper also came up big in the win with 22 kills and 11 digs. Brendan Chatman chipped in a season high 56 assists.

Morgan State was led by Esther Johnson's team-high 17 kills, while adding 20 digs. Ashley Preston led the team with 22 digs and Junel Jeffries had 43 assists.

The Lady Aggies defeated Coppin State in straight sets, 30-23, 30-17 and 30-28.

Outside hitter Arlene Mitchell led the Aggies (4-1, 6-12) with 17 kills and four service aces. Krystal Cooper added 15 kills and 10 digs while Brendan Chatman chipped in with 40 assists.

The Eagles (0-6, 0-15) were led by Shauniece Stewart, who tallied eight kills and 11 digs in the loss. Setter Krystal Williams added 14 assists.
 

Maryland-Eastern Shore  opened the Round Up with a  30-26, 30-28, 30-22 victory over the Lady Aggies. Led by junior Jana Milin's second triple-double of the season, the Hawks improved to 9-12 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

The Hawks dominated in the first game, but hung tough to pull out slim wins in the final two games. Milin recorded a team-high 14 kills, 10 digs and four service aces, to go along with 10 assists. In her first triple-double of the season she had double-figure stats in kills, digs and service aces.

Also contributing double-figures were Eriel Jeffery with 10 kills and Kate Smith with 28 assists.

N.C. A&T (4-12, 2-1) was led by Arlene Mitchell's game-high 19 kills and Brendan Chatman's 32 assists.
