Chatman averages 9.58 assists per game

 GREENSBORO, N.C., October 16, 2005 – The Aggies took a big step forward in the MEAC race by sweeping through the MEAC Roundup 6-0 over the weekend.

The Roundup, played on the campus of the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md., featured all eleven MEAC schools. The Aggies had six of those schools on their schedule, starting with Hampton on Friday.

Not only did the Aggies beat the Pirates, they did it on ESPNU as a part of the program’s first nationally televised game.  

The Aggies also defeated Morgan State and Coppin State on Friday, and then followed those wins up with Saturday wins over Delaware State and host UMES.

The Aggies closed the weekend with a 3-1 win over Howard to improve to 14-11 overall and 9-1 in the conference. With the six victories over the weekend, the Aggies exceeded their win total from last season by four games.

Sophomore setter Brenden Chatman starred for the Aggies as she averaged 9.58 assists, 2.79 digs and recorded 11 services aces over six games. Ashley Marsh also continued her improvement with .293 hitting percentage throughout the Roundup. Marsh also averaged 1.1 blocks.

Junior Darlene Mitchell and sophomore Krystal Cooper handled the Aggies offense during the Roundup. Mitchell averaged 3.92 kills per game, while Cooper totaled 79 kills for an average 3.29. Mitchell also had 18 services aces over six games. The Aggies played all six games without top hitter Arlene Mitchell, who is still nursing an ankle injury.
