On April 13, 2007, Lyndsay Schmiedel became the seventh North Carolina A&T head volleyball coach in the history of the program. She is entering her second season as the program’s head coach. Schmiedel led the Aggies to a second-place finish in the MEAC south division with a 5-3 record. This season, the Aggies are picked to finish second in the division again.

Schmiedel took over the position after serving two years as the Aggies assistant coach under former coach Millicent Sylvan. As an assistant at N.C. A&T for two years, Schmiedel had a huge role in scouting N.C. A&T's upcoming opponents and played a crucial in recruiting talented players to the university.

Schmiedel gained experience in planning, conducting practices and handling a budget during her stint as a head coach of a girls 18-and-under performance team out of Williamsburg Volleyball Club. Before taking the position at N.C. A&T, Schmiedel also served as an assistant coach at Division III Christopher Newport under head coach Lindsay Sheppard.

In Schmiedel only season at CNU, the Captains won the USA South Atlantic Conference Tournament, and tied for the regular-season crown. The Captains also advanced to the NCAA regional. Under Schmiedel's tutelage, freshman setter Brittany Collins won the conference tournament MVP award, and earned second-team all-conference honors.

Schmiedel graduated from the University of Akron in 2004 with a degree in mechanical engineering. She was a four-year starter as a setter for the Zips. She ended her career third on the all-time assists list. In 2002, she recorded a career-high 72 assists against Central Michigan.

Before attending Akron, the Livonia, Mich., native graduated Livonia High School summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. Schmiedel has coached and been a mentor in several volleyball camps, including camps at James Madison, Virginia Tech and the University of Michigan. She and her husband Michael have two sons named Caleb and William.
