THE WILLIAMS SKINNY: Williams is coming off of her best season as an Aggie…She established herself as one of the best blockers in the MEAC in 2007…Her 6-foot-3 frame makes her an intimidating force at the net…Possesses tremendous agility and quickness for a player her size…Earned second-team all-conference honors as a junior and comes this season as a leading candidate to earn first-team honors in 2008…She comes in looking to start for her third consecutive season…Forms one of the most formidable front lines in the conference along with fellow senior Aundia Gray…She expected to set the school record for solo blocks and block assists…She has totaled 313 blocks and 494 kills during her career.

2007: Played in 112 games over 33 matches and made 28 starts…She set career highs in block assists, total blocks, kills and total attacks…Also set a career high in hitting percentage…She led the team in solo blocks (25), block assists (94), total blocks (119) and hitting percentage (.214)…Had more block assists and more solo blocks than any other player in the MEAC…Ranked second in the league in blocks per game with 1.06…Her season earned her second-team all-conference honors…Had nine games in which she had double figure kills and nine games in which she had five or more blocks…Set a career high in total blocks and block assists with 10 total blocks and eight block assists in a 3-1 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 12…Posted 12 kills and eight total blocks (seven blocks assists) in a 3-2 loss to Air Force on Sept. 8…Recorded 11 kills and posted a .600 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win over S.C. State on Nov. 3…Followed that performance with 15 kills and a .367 hitting percentage against Campbell on Nov. 7…Slammed down 14 kills and had a .360 hitting percentage with three blocks in a 3-0 win over Savannah State on Sept. 28.

2006: Became the starting middle hitter for the Aggies and excelled with a season that saw her become an offensive threat for the Aggies…Played in 106 games over 31 matches, which saw her start 101 of those games…Ranked third in the conference in total blocks with 0.98 per game…Had more block assists than any other player in the MEAC with 78…Also had 26 solo blocks, which ranked her second in the conference…Had three games in which she recorded double figure kills….Recorded at least one block over her last seven games of the season…Recorded 10 kills and had five blocks in a 3-1 MEAC Tournament win over Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 17…Recorded a season-best 12 kills and five blocks in a 3-2 win over N.C. Central on Sept. 12 at Moore Gymnasium…Had seven kills and a season-best seven blocks in a 3-0 win over Coppin State on Oct. 13 in the MEAC Roundup…Had a season-best .583 hitting percentage, seven kills and two assists in a 3-1 win over Loyola (Md.).

2005: Played in 90 games over the course of 34 matches…Started 23 matches…Averaged 0.79 kills and 1.00 blocks per game…Ranked 2nd in the MEAC in blocks per game...Hit .500 (four kills, one error in six attacks) and added two digs in a 3-0 loss to East Carolina on Sept. 1… Hit .429 with three kills, one ace and two digs in a 3-0 victory at Hampton on Sept. 6…Had two kills and a block assist in a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sept. 9…Had four kills on five attacks (.800 hitting pct), an ace and 1.5 total blocks in a 3-0 victory over Campbell on Sept. 10…Had four solo and three assisted blocks (5.5 total) at Coastal Carolina on Sept. 17…Had four kills and three block assists in a 3-0 victory over Bethune–Cookman on Sept. 24…Had four kills and four block assists in a 3-2 victory over S.C. State on Sept. 27…Four block assists in a 3-1 loss to Gardner-Webb on Oct. 4…Four kills in a 3-1 loss to Campbell on Nov. 1…Had three kills and 5.5 total blocks in a 3-0 victory over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 5…

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four varsity letters for the Tigers and coach Sandi Stein…Named Team MVP and Most Improved Player her senior season…Led her team to the Division Championship as a senior.

PERSONAL: Full name is Avigon Williams...Her teammates call her Ivy...She is the daughter of Larry and Andrea Williams...She has three siblings, Adrianna, Larry and Kristie...She was born on July 1, 1987...She is a journalism and mass communications major...She calls her coaches Lyndsay Schmiedel and Arlene Mitchell her biggest influences because they great role models and she spends so much time with them.
