GREENSBORO, February 19, 2007The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team has a celebratory dance it does after each victory at home called the two-step. Fortunately for the Aggies, they’ve two-stepped a lot this season.

N.C. A&T concluded its home schedule on Monday night with an 89-69 win over Morgan State. Amber Bland, the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, led the Aggies with 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Bland is 11 points shy of breaking the Aggies single-season scoring record, which is currently held by Malveata Johnson.

Brittanie Taylor-James added 19 points and Ta’Wuana “Tweet” Cook finished with 17 points and nine rebounds as five Aggies reached double figures.

The Aggies improved to 15-11 overall and 10-5 in the conference. “For us to be in the position we’re in with no seniors on our team is truly a blessing,’’ said head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs. “You would like to have that senior leader on your team, but in time that will come.”

N.C. A&T led from start to finish and had their most dominate performance of the season on the boards with a 52-38 advantage over the Bears.  After a Cirara Banks layup cut the Aggies lead to 18-13 with 10:18 remaining in the first half, Bland hit a three from the top of the key that sparked a 13-2 run that ended with a fastbreak layup from Cook with 6:34 remaining in the first half.

After going into the locker room with a 43-30 halftime lead. Cook and Bland would again make the Bears pay in transition and in the halfcourt. Two transition layups from Cook and two perimeter shots from Bland opened the Aggies lead to 18, 50-32 with 15:21 remaining. An Ahmad Williams layup gave the Aggies their biggest lead of the game at 20.

From there the Aggies cruised and led by as many as 27 in the second half. Whitney Johnson led the Bears with 19 points and seven rebounds. Corin Adams added 14 for the Bears who are 13-11 overall and 8-6 in the conference.

The Aggies are still in a battle for second place as they go on the road for three straight games starting with Norfolk State on Saturday afternoon at 2 from Echols Hall. The Aggies close the regular-season with Hampton and Delaware State.
