WILLIAMS SCORES 29 IN EXHIBITION WIN

Rembert knocks down three 3-pointer

GREENSBORO, November 4, 2006 Ahmad Williams is one of only Aggies women’s basketball player back from the 2005-2006 team. The sophomore out of Zachary, La., played like seasoned veteran on Friday night. Williams scored 29 points in a 100-43 win over Bennett College at Goode Gymnasium.

Nancy Rembert added 17 points on three made 3-pointers and freshmen Lamona Smalley and Shantar Waddell had 13 and 12 respectively.

“We scored a lot of points and we did some good things, but we still need to move toward getting better defensively,’’ said head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs. “I believe offense takes care of itself if you’re playing good defense.”

The Aggies jumped out to an 18-0 lead over the Belles with Williams scoring 10 of the Aggies 18 points over the first 10 minutes of the half. The Belles didn’t score their first basket until the 10:42 mark of the first half, a 3-pointer from the right wing.

North Carolina A&T would build its lead to as many as 22 at 27-5 before the Belles put together some points in transition to close the Aggies lead to within 12, 34-22 at the 4:23 mark of the first half.

But Williams would get on a roll again, scoring six points in a 10-0 Aggies run to end the half with the Aggies leading 44-22. The Aggies went on to dominate the second half, as Rembert began knocking down 3-pointers and freshman center LaPorsha Lowry and Smalley began blocking shots on the defensive end.

The Aggies will play another scrimmage at Corbett Sports Center on Monday night against Pfeiffer at 6:30. They do the real thing on Friday night at Corbett against Stetson at 7.
