Three Aggies record a school record three separate double-doubles

The Aggies improved
to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC with an 87-73 win over Howard. The
Aggies have won three out of their last four meetings with the Bison,
and Bibbs is 3-0 against the Bison since becoming the head lady at N.C.
A&T. Three different Aggies recorded double-doubles led by a career game from freshman Shantar Waddell, who had 13 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Amber Bland recorded her second straight double-double with 15 points and 10 boards, while Ahmad Williams completed the trio double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brittanie Taylor-James was the Aggies leading scorer with 17 points. “The MEAC from top to bottom is a tough conference,’’ said Bibbs. “You have to come to play every night. We have a young team, but these ladies will learn quickly, if you don’t come to play, anyone can beat you.” The Aggies dominated on the glass (55-41), shot well from the floor (.448) and led from the opening tip, but the Aggies committed 28 turnovers, which helped the Bison to stay within striking distance. Tu’Wuana “Tweet” Cook put the Aggies up by 20, 71-51 with a 3-pointer in transition with 9:23 remaining in the game. But Howard would score the next 10 points to the cut the Aggies lead to 10 with 6:55 to play. Ahmad Williams, who had her first double-figure scoring performance in nine games, hit back-to-back driving layups to put the Aggies up 14. The closest the Bison were able to venture the rest of the way was 11 on a Christina Aden 3-pointer with 4:36 remaining. Taylor-James answered with a quick layup for an 80-67 lead. The Aggies defense would hold the Bison without a point over the next 2 ½ minutes to seal the victory. The Aggies, who are 6-1 at home with the win, will go on the road to face Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at 2 p.m. |
