Patricia Cage-Bibbs wants to show her young North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team all the things college basketball has to offer. One of those things includes playing in a nationally-ranked opponents’ backyard.

On Wednesday, the Aggies did just that as No. 8 Georgia defeated the Aggies 89-35 at Stegeman Coliseum. Freshman center Lonise Coulter (6-2, Flint, Mich.) had nine points and sophomore guard Ahmad Williams (5-8, Zachary, La.) led the Aggies with 11 points and four rebounds.

The Bulldogs (2-0) were led by Cori Chambers, who had 22 points on 6-for-9 shooting from 3-point range and Megan Darrah had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

“Our freshmen and sophomores have to grow up quickly,’’ said Bibbs. “They must understand there are some talented teams around the country, and if want to be the best and beat the best, you have to come to play. I think this was a good lesson and a good test for us.”

When Amber Bland found Coulter on a backdoor play, the Aggies trailed by five four minutes into the game at 10-5. The Bulldogs extended their lead with a 10-0 run as the Aggies hit a drought from the field.

But the Aggies weren’t above playing some nice defense themselves. The Aggies forced five straight stops, and held the Bulldogs with a point for more than five minutes until Janese Hardick scored on a layup. The Aggies answered with a Williams 3-pointer before Darrah started scoring with her mid-range jump shot.

Darrah scored eight points to end the half to help the Bulldogs build a 23-point halftime lead and take control of the game.

The Aggies travel to the University of South Carolina on Friday to play the Gamecocks at 7 p.m., before returning home to play Wofford at 5:30 p.m., on Monday.
