produced. Waddell scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked five shots and recorded three steals in a season-high 38 minutes of play to lead the Aggies to a huge road win over Morgan State 69-62. Brittanie Taylor-James also had her best outing of the season with 19 points and five boards on 7-for-17 shooting. Amber Bland added 18 and Ta’Wuana “Tweet” Cook finished with 11 points and six assists as four Aggies reached double figures. The Aggies snapped their two-game losing streak and improved to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference, which puts them in third place. Bibbs and her staff have one more win than they did a year ago with 11 regular-season games remaining. The win was also the 390th of Bibbs' career. Waddell was averaging 14.0 minutes per game in her previous five outings. But on Monday she set the tone early with four of her five blocks coming in the first half. “She had a good one tonight,’’ said Bibbs. “She can be the type of play that fills up a stat sheet every night if she really wants it. She’s athletic and quick leaper off the floor.” Despite Waddell’s strong first-half, the Aggies trailed 29-28 going into the locker room. Morgan State’s Corin Adams gave the Bears their biggest lead of the second half when she netted a 3-pointer with 7:25 remaining to give the Bears a 52-46 lead. Amber Bland drove to the basket for a deuce and Taylor-James hit a tough jumper falling away to cut the lead down to two, 52-50, with 5:42 to play. The Bears would beat the Aggies press, however, and scored on a layup by Shanar Phillips to put the Bears ahead by four. N.C. A&T answered with a 9-2 run capped off by another tough jump shot by Taylor-James and a Waddell 3-point play that gave the Aggies a 59-56 lead with 2:55 remaining. The Bears pulled within one on two free throws, but the Aggies put the game away by scoring six straight points. When Ahmad Williams took the ball away from the Bears Ciara Banks and tossed it ahead to Cook for a layup the Aggies had a 65-58 lead with 58 seconds to play. “I’m proud of them because they were down and fought back,’’ said Bibbs. “We are still trying to grow with all these freshmen and sophomores, but I thought we did a lot things right tonight.” The Aggies will return home to play Norfolk State on Saturday at 2 p.m., before facing Hampton Monday afternoon at 4 in Corbett Sports Center. |
