Cook had no turnovers against S.C. State GREENSBORO,
N.C.,
December 4, 2006
– On
Saturday, freshman point guard Ta’Wuana “Tweet” Cook scored 18 points,
dished out seven assists and did not commit a turnover in a huge 74-61
conference win over
S.C.
State. For
her efforts, Cook earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors in women’s
basketball for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3.
Cook earned the difficult tasks of running North Carolina A&T head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs’ offense, while trying to replace Shareka “Mia” Glover, an Aggie great at the point guard position. So far, she has taken the difficult tasks head on and succeeded. “Tweet has a real high basketball IQ,’’ said Bibbs. “She understands the game, she understands defenses and she knows how to get us into our offense. I think that is pretty impressive for a freshman. As she gets more and more game experience, she is going to be an outstanding player for us.” Cook (5-8, Fayetteville, N.C.) led Seventy-First High School to two state titles before coming to N.C. A&T. This season, she is averaging 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She is second on the team in scoring and tied for the team lead in assists. Cook has been most impressive in the Aggies three wins this season. She is averaging 17.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and just 3.1 turnovers in those three contests. Cook and the Aggies will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16 when they take on UNC-Asheville from Corbett Sports Center at 7 p.m. |
