Coach Bibbs on bei
ng the target in the conference
“We are in a position right now where everyone we play is going to give
us their best game. Everybody wants to be the first team to knock us
off, so we’re going to get everybody’s best shot. I thought when they
made their push in the
first half; we did a good job of holding them off
even though our defense was not as good as we wanted it to be. They
scored 36 points in the first half; I thought that was too many.
I was also not
satisfied with the rebounding but I am never satisfied. If I am
satisfied that means we won the championship. Right now, we’re just in
the hunt.”
Coach Bibbs on shutting down Sophilia Hipp
“Hipps really wanted to come to A&T so maybe that’s why she was shooting
as many shots as she did. We contained her pretty well; you have to make
her put the ball on the floor because when you give her open shots she
will hit 3-pointers. But in the second half we were in her face.”
Coach Bibbs on Brittane Neely’s increased playing time
“She will definitely get more playing time. We’re trying to get her in
and get more minutes with Lonise Coulter and Jalessa Sams out. It’s
really tough on us under the basket so hopefully we can give her more
time and she’ll get better and better. I think now she will be more
focus because a lot of time when you don’t get a lot of minutes you are
not focused on what you need to do. Going out there was good for her.”
Coach Bibbs on Brittanie Taylor-James stepping in for Jalessa Sams
and playing well
“It’s really
big. Jalessa is more aggressive but Brittanie knows she can score the
basketball and I noticed to that she does get under there for rebounds.
I told her tonight I was so happy she got five of offensive boards. I am
happy about Brittanie and the way she is playing.
Coach Bibbs on
beating
S.C. State
“It feels
good, South
Carolina State is a very physical team and they got some kids that love
to rebound. Our kids were knocking down some shots tonight. We shot 50
percent from the field. I love that.”
Coach Bibbs on going after a championship
“I am very proud of this team. I know sometimes I am tough on them but
they’re going to appreciate this because when you win a championship and
you’re walking around holding your ring up all summer it makes you feel
good. I want them to know how that feels. It’s the idea of going into
the next season as the champion. We are six and zero right now, but I
know we have a long way to go and we really have some tough teams coming
up.”
