Five Aggies score in double figures
Box Score The Aggies placed five players in double figures to earn a convincing 92-54 win. The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team held its second straight opponent to under 35 percent shooting and placed five players in double figures to earn their most lopsided victory since beating Morris Brown 94-56 back in 2003. “I was very touched by the presentation at the beginning of the game,’’ said Bibbs, who earned victory No. 402 on Tuesday. “It’s truly great to show you can achieve this at a black college, and you can go up against some of the best teams in the country at a black college and be successful. I can’t say enough about doing this at a black college and I’m elated it happened here at N.C. A&T.” Bibbs has the Aggies (5-1) off their best start since the 1992-93 season. Another win will give the Aggies their best start in school history. Amber Bland led the Aggies with 17 points and five rebounds. Jaleesa Sams added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Lonise Coulter had “What we wanted to do tonight is see different defenses with different lineups,’’ said head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs, who was honored before the game for winning her 400th career game back on November 23. “It’s kind of tough when you’re dominating a team like we did tonight to find combinations to work with. But I think we did some good things in many areas of the game tonight.” The Aggies shot 51.5 percent from the floor on Tuesday. After Bibbs was honored the Aggies went right to work. A Bland layup sparked a 17-0 Aggies run that gave N.C. A&T a 27-7 lead with 8:37 remaining in the first half. The Spartans never got any closer than 15 points the rest of the night. Courtney Hawkins led the Spartans with 18 points, five assists and three steals. The Spartans shot just 33.3 percent from the floor. The Aggies begin conference play 4 p.m., Saturday when they face Norfolk State at Echols Hall. |
