GREENSBORO, NC, January 21, 2006 – Coppin State ended North Carolina A&T’s three-game winning streak with a 82-54 win in MEAC women’s basketball action at Corbett Sports Center Saturday. Senior Shareka Glover led the Aggies with 18 points, and fellow seniors Kira Tillman and Bianca Johnson had 14 apiece. The Eagles remained unbeaten in MEAC play at 6-0. They are 7-8 overall. The Aggies fell to 3-12 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Sherrie Tucker led the way for the Eagles with 24 points and eight rebounds on 11-for-16 shooting, and Tanezia Harden added 20 points on 10-for-12 shooting. Coppin State came out hitting shots early and never cooled off. The Eagles shot 69.2 percent in the first half and 56.3 percent for the game. Despite the Eagles starting the game hitting 13 of their first 16 shots, the Aggies found still themselves down just six, 27-21 thanks to a 10-2 run that trimmed the Eagles 14-point lead. But the Eagles wouldn’t cooperate with the Aggies run. They kept hitting shots, meanwhile the Aggies hit a lull, expanding the Eagles lead. Bianca Johnson’s 3-point play that cut the Eagles lead to six with 5:04 remaining in the first half would be the final points the Aggies mustered for the remainder of the half. Tucker, last season’s MEAC Player of the Year, took advantage for the Eagles. She scored six points during an 11-0 Eagles run to end the half as Coppin State took a 38-21 lead into the locker room. “We’re not going to dwell on it,’’ said N.C. A&T head women’s basketball coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs. “When you’re playing a team as good as Coppin your intensity level needs to be high. I don’t think our intensity level was where it needed to be.” “But we have a good Morgan State team coming in here on Monday, so we’re going to have to rebound quickly.”
