GREENSBORO, N.C., February 6, 2006 – In January, the North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team overcame an 11-point deficit to defeat Delaware State for its first win of the season.

On Saturday, the Hornets built a big lead and held on to it as they defeated the Aggies 80-65 at Cal-Irvin-Don Corbett Court at Corbett Sports Center. Shareka Glover and Kira Tillman had 16 apiece.

The Aggies were hurt by a strong shooting performance from the Hornets. The Hornets shot 61.5 percent from the floor, and they took a comfortable lead in the first half thanks to 63.3 shooting percentage in the first half.

The Aggies took an early 10-7 lead thanks to a Bianca Johnson 3-point five minutes into the game. The Hornets scored the next 15 points to take a 22-10 lead. The 15-0 run was sparked by transition points and Raquel Colliers’ eight points during the run.

The Aggies moved to within 24-19 on a Shareka Glover 3-pointer with 7:32 remaining in the first half, but Najmah Fauntleroy answered with a three of her own. Fauntleroy’s three sparked a 19-5 run that the Aggies never recovered from.

The closest the Aggies came in the second half was 12 with 7:43 remaining, but the Hornets (13-7, 7-4) continued their hot shooting, assuring there would be no late-game heroics from the Aggies (5-14, 5-5).

Fauntleroy scored 14 points and had nine rebounds, and Raquel Collier had a game-high 17 points.

The Aggies will be in action again on Saturday, Feb. 11 when they face Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla. They return home Feb. 25 when they face Norfolk State at 2 p.m.
