Freddie Murray begins his second coaching stint with the North Carolina A&T women’s basketball program. His primary duties will consist of being responsible for the Aggies travel, scouting recruiting, academic monitoring, game preparation and player development. Murray brings with him a wealth of experience on the collegiate level. Murray served as an assistant coach for the McNeese State women’s basketball team from 2005-2007. He later gained valuable experience when he took over as the Cowgirls’ interim head coach during the 2006-2007 season. Murray won his first game as a collegiate head coach on Feb. 24, 2007 when his Cowgirls team defeated Lamar 60-59. Murray helped the Cowgirls win two out of their last three games to end the season. Prior to his stint at McNeese State, Murray spent two seasons starting in 2003 as an assistant coach for the Aggies under former head coach Saudia Roundtree. Murray began his coaching career at Jackson State University as a graduate assistant. His hard work earned him an assistant coaching position in 2001. Murray stayed with the Tigers until 2003. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Jackson State in 1990. Murray is a native of Jackson, Miss., where he was a standout athlete at Jim Hill High in football, basketball, soccer, track and cross country. He has one son named Dedrick.
