Russ in AggieLand: Had some bright spots during the season as she tried become adjusted to Division I play…Comes into this season looking to be a better distributor, ballhandler and defender…Came to N.C. A&T with a reputation of being a shooter and could find some playing time at the No.2 guard position…Played 219 minutes as a freshman and scored 30 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, dashed out 10 assists and had 14 steals.
2007-2008: Played in 23 games with no starts for the Aggies…Averaged 1.3 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 0.6 steals per game…Shot .281 from the field, .333 from 3-point range and .800 from the free throw line…Played double-figure minutes 15 times…Scored seven points and four assists on 2-for-5 shooting in a win over S.C. Upstate on Nov. 27…She hit a big 3-pointer at Delaware State on Jan. 21 that capped a 9-0 Aggies run that tied the game at 44-44 midway through the second half…The Aggies went on to win the game.
John Handley High School Career: Named Northwestern District Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006....Was also a first-team Northwestern District as a sophomore, junior and a senior, while being named all-region for three consecutive years... Was a two-year honorable mention All-State performer...Named to the Washington Post’s All-Metro team twice ... Named the Northern Virginia Daily Player of the Year in 2006 and was a three-time winner of the Winchester Star Player of the Year...For all four years of her high school career was named first-team all-area ... Named High School Athletic Association Outstanding Girls Basketball Athlete as a sophomore, junior and senior...She is the first girls basketball player from John Handley High School to play Division I basketball and averaged 20.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.2 steals and 4.9 assists as a junior…Played four varsity seasons under Marvin Scott.
Personal: Full name is Taryn Elyse Russ…She is the daughter of Kevin and Billie Russ…She has two siblings, Daly and Ray…She was born on October 27, 1988…She is a sports science and fitness management major who enjoys singing and playing the guitar…She listens to gospel music, Chrisette Michele and Lil’ Wayne before games…If she could change something about the world it would be to end racism and hatred…She knew in middle school she wanted to play Division I basketball.
