GREENSBORO - As former North Carolina A&T standout Xavier Macklin continues to flourish in his professional baseball career, the college honors keep coming his way.
Macklin (6-1, 190, Rocky Mount, N.C.) has been to the 2011 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Atlantic Region Second Team. He was also named to the 2011 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State Team. Macklin's collegiate honors go along nicely with being drafted 376th overall in the 12th round of the First-Year Major League Baseball Player Draft.
In six games as a member of the Vermont Lake Monsters, a short-season Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, Macklin is hitting .360 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. During his final season with the Aggies, he hit .355 with 22 home runs and 67 RBIs.
As the college baseball season comes to an end, Macklin still ranks among the nation's leaders in home runs (2nd), slugging percentage (3rd) and RBIs (10th).
