MEN'S BASKETBALL PREVIEW
The Game: North Carolina
A&T (12-19, 7-9 MEAC) vs. Howard (9-20, 6-10 MEAC)
When: Tuesday, March 6,
2012 at 1:30 p.m.
Where: Lawrence Joel
Coliseum (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
Must See: The Aggies play well
at tournament time. North Carolina A&T enters the MEAC Tournament trying to
advance to the semifinals for the first time in four years. The Aggies are also
looking for their first tournament win since 2010. The Aggies have not been to
the championship game of the MEAC tournament since the 1997 season. The Aggies
record in the tournament since making it to the finals in '97 is 5-13. The
Aggies are looking to regain an edge that saw them win five straight in January.
A&T is 2-6 since the streak and they lost leading scorer Nic Simpson to a
knee injury. The Aggies will rely heavily on reserve guard Jared Williams and
Jean Louisme. The Aggies are an impressive 16-4 against Howard in the
tournament.
Howard: Howard comes in as
the No. 10 seed as it looks to avenge an earlier loss to A&T at Burr
Gymnasium in Washington, D.C. Howard has won four out of its last six,
including two games in which it won by two points. Howard features All-MEAC
Rookie team member Prince Okoroh who is averaging 8.7 points and 3.5 rebounds
per game. The Bison only have one player averaging in double figures in Glen
Andrews, who has only played in 13 games for the Bison. Andrews had 16 points
on 8-for-8 shooting from the free throw line in the Bison's 70-65 loss to the
Aggies on Jan. 14.
