BOILING SPRINGS  -- The North Carolina A&T women's tennis  team did something on Monday it has not done in over a month. In an oddity for a spring sport, the Aggies actually had to get used to competing outdoors.

Gardner-Webb was able to defeat the Aggies 7-0 as A&T started its three-match road trip.

"The match was a little bit different," Nigatu said.  "It was our first outdoor match in more than a month, since we've played most of our matches indoor, so that was different.  It was also a little different because there were differences in our lineup.  But everybody gave 100 percent.  The overall performance was pretty good."

After starting at No. 1 on Saturday against conference opponent S.C. State, sophomore Kimberly Stalling was back at No. 4 on Monday.  Junior Cayla Cross returned to the No. 1 spot for the Aggies.  Sophomore Victorea Austin moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 for the second time this season, and junior Nianna Henry made her first No. 6 singles start of the season in her first singles match since Jan. 21.  Junior April Burrage was absent from the singles lineup.

There were also some changes in the doubles lineup, as Henry was paired with senior Azeib Nigatu for the first time this season in the first doubles match.   Cross and Stalling competed in the second doubles match for their first match as a team.

The new lineup produced some results, as the Aggies scored more points on Monday than they did against S.C. State on Saturday. Austin posted the most points in singles for the Aggies, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Yasmin Doost.

Cross lost 6-0, 6-4 against Erica White.  Stalling at the No. 4 spot, fell 6-2, 6-1 against Jenny Lunde.  The Aggies also scored more points in doubles as well on Monday, despite losing all three matches.

The Aggies will stay outdoors on Saturday as they travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on Coppin State at 2 p.m. The Aggies will then take on Howard in Washington D.C., at 1 p.m., on Sunday to close out competition for the week.

"The teams we'll play this weekend are probably not as competitive at the same level as the team we played today," Nigatu said. "We'll go back to our regular level in those matches, so [having taken on tough competition today] will help us a lot."
