THE BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF NORTH CAROLINA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
(NOVEMBER 4-11)
ANDREA EVANS, EMILY STROMBECK
Full Name: Andrea Nicole Evans
Height:
6-2
Major: Biology
Hometown: Oxford,
N.C.
Professional Goals: "I
plan on being a registered dietician. I also plan on going to graduate school."
The Student-Athlete:
"I felt like it finally came to an end. My four years were done. I was
like, if I don't go out with a bang, then what did I play for?"
The evidence for being
the BCBSNC Athlete of the Week: Evans is one
of the most improved athletes on North Carolina A&T's campus. Her career
got off to a slow start, but it ended with a bang. In her final match as an
Aggie, Evans had eight kills, no attack errors and an excellent .615 hitting
percentage. The senior did not commit a hitting error in her last two matches,
which were wins over Savannah State and S.C. State. In leading the Aggies to
victory in both matches, Evans helped the Aggies secure their first two-match
winning streak in five years.
Evans on being named
BCBSNC Athlete of the Week: "When I first came in, I
actually had a heatstroke, so I spent my first year recovering from that. It
took a lot, a lot of work to get to where I am now."
Full Name: Emily Brooke Strombeck
Major: Nursing
Hometown: Durham,
N.C.
Professional Goals: "Right
now I'm doing pre-nursing because I've always wanted to be a nurse, but people
told me that bowling and nursing was too much work. I couldn't let that affect
me and my decision.
The Student-Athlete:
"This year will be completely different with all the recruits we have. We've
got work to do, but finishing second showed everyone A&T is not a joke this
year."
The evidence for being
the BCBSNC Athlete of the Week: Strombeck had
an average score of 196.3 in four games bowled at the MEAC Southern Divisional
Meet No. 1 in Deland, Fla. Strombeck helped the Aggies earn a 5-3 conference
record over the weekend, including wins over nationally-ranked Bethune-Cookman
and Norfolk State. Strombeck's 785 score was the second-highest tally of the
weekend. She bowled a 222 against Bethune-Cookman.
Strombeck
on being named BCBSNC Athlete of the Week: "I believe we
can win the MEAC this year because we're working hard out here on the lanes.
Every practice, we're giving it our all."
