ATHENS, Ga.-North Carolina A&T swimming head coach Shawn
Hendrix predicted that a school record would fall on Friday in the second day
of competition at the CCSA Championships.
"We are swimming well and should break the 800 free relay school
record tonight," she said in the afternoon.
A few hours later, freshman Niya Ross, sophomore Danielle
Jackson, and juniors Erika Eisenman and Christian Hill combined to set a new
school record in that event with an 8:49.40 time for 13th place at
the Gabrielson Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The Aggies also turned in a number of personal career-bests
and several season-best performances on Friday.
In the 400 IM preliminary race, freshman Victoria Orr
touched the wall in 5:22.95. It was her
second fastest time in that event this season, and the fourth best time in
In the 100 fly preliminary race, senior Lauren Bowling
missed matching her school record by .45 seconds. She finished the event in 1:00.73 for 37th
place. It was a strong finish for
Bowling in that event, as it shaved three seconds off her 100 fly time at
Davidson Invitational. Freshman Niya
Ross swam the 100 fly in a season-best 1:02.28, shaving more than four seconds
off her previous best time. Freshman
Jade Hill clocked in at 1:06.51, while freshman Miranda Jacobs finished the
event in a season-best 1:07.75.
In the 200 free preliminary, Ross posted the best finish
among A&T swimmers, with a 2:06.92 time for 43rd place. Junior Christian Hill came in with a 2:11.14
time, while freshman Kenya Dunn was just behind her with a 2:11.71 finish. Junior Courtney Jefferson finished the race
in a career-best 2:21.44. It was the
second straight day in which she set a career-best, after swimming the 50 free
in 27.74 on Thursday.
In the 100 breast preliminary, sophomore Danielle Jackson
had the best performance for A&T, clocking in at 1:11.06, a new career-best
time, for 27th place. That
was also the fastest time in that event by an Aggie this season. Jade Hill finished in 1:13.42, while Orr
posted a season-best 1:14.13 time. Miles

place with an individual and team season-best 1:05.10 time. Bowling was just seconds behind her with
1:07.00 finish in the race, setting a new career-best time. Christian Hill clocked in at 1:11.19, while
Sarah Simmons finished the race in 1:33.07.
The 'A' team of freshman Miranda Jacobs, sophomore Danielle
Jackson, senior Lauren Bowling and freshman Kenya Dunn finished 11th
in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.05, the best time in that event this season by
a relay team.
The final day of the Championships will begin on Saturday at
10 a.m. The Aggies will compete in the
200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 free relay events.
